THEME
Under the theme, "That All May Serve," the conference
will focus on the importance of all people -- regardless
of disability -- to have an opportunity to serve, give and
participate.
Keynote
Speaker
Keynoting
the 2004 CCPD annual educational conference April 23-25
in Indianapolis will be Bill Gaventa, Director of Community
& Congregational Supports at the Elizabeth M. Boggs
Center on Development Disabilities, and Associate Professor,
Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
In his role at the Boggs Center, Bill works on community
supports, training for community services staff, and supervision
of a program in Clinical Pastoral Education. He also coordinates
a training and technical assistance team for the New Jersey
Self Determination Initiative, a statewide process now supporting
more than 300 individuals and their families.
Prior to his position at the Boggs Center in New Jersey,
he was Coordinator of Family Support for the Georgia Developmental
Disabilities Council. Before that, he served as Chaplain
and Coordinator of Religious Services for the Monroe Developmental
Center in New York. He is a graduate of Stetson University
in Florida and Union Theological Seminary in New York City.
As writer and author, he is Co-Editor of the Journal of
Religion, Disability and Health, editor of two newsletters,
and a columnist for Insight, the national newsletter of
the ArcUSA. In a volunteer capacity, Bill has served as
Executive Secretary for the Religion and Spirituality Division
of the AAMR since 1985. He currently serves on the Board
of Directors of the AAMR.
CONCERT
ARTIST
Dove
Award-winning recording artist, Ginny Owens, will headline
the opening concert of the 2004CCPD National Conference,
"That All May Serve." Blind since the age of 2
due to a rare eye disease, Ginny began playing the piano
and singing by age 3. In 2000, she received the Dove award
for Best New Artist. She's had several number one songs,
including "If You Want Me To" and received another
Dove award in 2001 for co-writing "Blessed." Her
latest album is Blueprint, and another is scheduled for
release in the spring. Considered an excellent acoustic
performer, as well as concert band artist, Ginny inspires
multitudes of fans with her thoughtful and intelligent lyrics.
Opening the conference on Friday evening, April 23, her
concert is sure to be an inspiring evening of worship and
praise.

The
2004 conference will be preceded by a special program Thursday
evening, and a full slate of workshops on Friday under the
leadership of Don Crooker. These events emphasize inclusion
programming for Christian camps. Letter

Individual
registration for the Pre-Conference Camping Emphasis is
$25. Group rate is $20 for 3 or more people registering
together, prior to April 1st.
NOTE:
Also
on Friday, the Christian
Reformed Church's regional disability representatives
will hold their annual gathering. Other organizations that
accept CCPD's statement of faith are welcome to piggyback
their meetings with the CCPD gathering to the extent that
space allows.
